Andrew Malcolm of Belfast: Physician and Historian
نویسنده
چکیده
THIS book is in two parts: a biography of Malcolm (134 pages) and a facsimile reproduction of his History of the Belfast General Hospital and the Principal Medical Institutions of the Town, first published in 1851 (by S. & G. Agnew) but long out of print and now rare. Both are wvelcome; their publication in one well-produced and comparatively inexpensive volume is particularly appropriate. Those interested in medicine and its institutions, philanthropy and the history of this city generally owe a debt to author, sponsors and publshers alike.

I have little doubt at its inception this was a method of introducing the new student to his hospital, advising him of its traditions and practices, and instructing him on his new responsibilities and duties tow...
متن کاملLexical Cohesion and Literariness in Malcolm X's " The Ballot or the Bullet"
This paper unearths the contribution of lexical cohesion to the textuality and overall meaning of Malcolm X’s speech 'The Ballot or the Bullet'. Drawing on Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) and Hoey’s (1991) theory of cohesion, specifically lexical cohesion, whose main thrust is the role of lexical items in not only contributing to meaning but also serving as cohesive ties, the paper discusses how ...

I must thank the Medical Staffofthe Royal Victoria Hospital forthe greathonourthattheyhavebestowed upon me today in asking me to deliver the 2004 Oration. It is interesting to note that in 1852, when DrAndrew George Malcolm was giving this oration he stated that the oration was "an old established custom". From the first Oration in 1827 until 1883 the opening address probably took the form of t...
